From the veranda of Posto Segreto, you see that black tunnel. You start from there to go to the hot springs, it takes about three hours on foot. You have to go through the tunnel, which we also call the Oracle, because once you go through it twice you will have the answer to your questions. Follow the road, cross the highway, watch out for cars, continue; on the right and on the left dogs bark. A little before the flyover, move to the right and follow this road that runs alongside the edge of the highway. On your right a series of gates, dogs barking, chickens roosting, prickly pears coming out of the nets squeezed into turgid shapes. An abandoned house, climb over, go to the roof, take aim: it’s under the bridge you must go. This is the bridge of the A 29 highway, it’s the section that connects the Castellammare del Golfo exit to the Alcamo Ovest exit.

Go down, the decline is very steep, there are olive trees, almond trees, prickly pears and reeds. A road opens in this no man’s land, the third landscape, the underbridge, a Far West made of piles of garbage, dirt and lots of plastic. This road climbs, the bridge ends above you and leans against a rock. You can’t go wrong, there’s a huge pile of garbage, clothes, things left there, black bags full of plastic plates, all a bit burnt from the last cleaning. Go left and start down the road, in front of you Mount Bonifato. On your right another pile of garbage marks this road, then turn right and walk along it. On your left, a row of secular olive trees of at least 400-500 years old with a trunk having a diameter of 50, 60, 70 centimeters. You are again under the bridge: vineyards to the right and to the left, on the roads the fresh tracks of pick up trucks coming to unload. Staying under the bridge, you arrive at the Giovanni Bosco Gallery. The pillars of the bridge are decorated with a series of murals by the artist Giovanni Bosco, who used to go there with his sheep. While the sheep were grazing, he drew men making love to the sheep, mystical symbols, writings that say I love you with a heart and a sword stuck in it, little monsters that emerge from the paint done with a large brush and brown paint the color of shit.

Suddenly in front of you the Crimiso River opens up 4,5,6, meters wide depending on the flow of the river. You got to cross it. Climb the concrete wall on which the two pylons engage. You’ll have to cross a blanket of reeds and you’ll be back on the road under the bridge. Here on the right and left are vegetable gardens in the best Arab tradition. Keep walking, on your left, garbage again. This is layered in heaps, the first layer is black with fire, above the other layers that are burned again and on which new layers accumulate that will be burned again later. At the end of the road there is another river crossing, before that turn right and keep the river on your left. From here to the hot springs you pass a series of forks where the fields are full of vegetable gardens. If you pass by there in the rainy season between October and November or even between February and the beginning of March be careful not to get bogged down in a puddle of mudd. Consider that the river is submerged, at the first rain it emerges by combining the clay with the water flowing. Walking through abandoned houses and secular olive trees, you will arrive then at the parking lot of the Segesta’s hot springs. Cross the river again and you will find yourself in the middle of the hot springs. Keep in mind not to talk, do not turn on the light and leave no trace.
