Alcamo’s Cuba delle Rose is an Arab cistern that dates back about 1,000 years and is located about 300 meters from the north/west side of Calatubo Castle. The word “Cuba” may have come from the Arabic qubbah, hence the Sicilian word cubba, dome covering a reservoir for collecting water. It is a peculiar construction of Arab origin that has withstood the passage of centuries, still collecting water from a nearby spring and representing a very important work from an archaeological and architectural point of view, the only one of its kind in Sicily.
