Description

The town of New Gibellina was built from scratch following the earthquake that destroyed most of the towns in the Belice Valley in 1968.
In 1970 the administration led by mayor Ludovico Corrao chose to accompany the building of the new Gibellina with an ambitious and utopian street furniture project that would turn it into the largest open-air museum in Italy. The site on which the present town stands is eleven kilometers from the ruins of the old town where Alberto Burri created the monumental land art memorial work the Grande Cretto. Reachable by car with our team.
